September at Meadowbrooke

September is the beginning of our busy time here at Meadowbrooke Gourds. We have lots of fun and exciting things going on at the farm.

Sunflower Season

Our sunflower season will begin on September 3rd.  This will be the first day of FREE sunflower picking.  Stop in our retail store to find which sunflower fields are open and blooming.  The sunflower fields will be open from 7:00am-dusk.  Our retail store will have extended hours during the sunflower season.  Starting September 3rd we will be open from 10:00am - 6:00pm Monday - Saturday and Sundays we will be open from 12:00pm - 4:00pm. Please remember to bring a pair of pruners along to cut your sunflowers.  We do have some pruners in our retail store you can borrow just in case you forget.  We will also have mason jars for sale for you to take your sunflowers home in.  On the front porch, we will once again have a snipping station to cut down your sunflowers and put them in water.

Trevor’s Trolley

Our sunset trolley rides will begin on Friday, September 6th.  They will run Mondays through Saturdays. The ride will begin at 6:00 pm (this may change as the days get shorter) and pick up will be across the street from the retail store.  You will enjoy a ride around the farm, stopping to pick at the sunflower fields and enjoy the spectacular sunset from on top the hill.  The price is $5.00/pp, children 3 and under are free when held on your lap.  To ensure yourself a seat, we suggest you register through our website by clicking here.  You only need to reserve a seat for those paying.  Payment will be collected at the time of the ride.

Gourd Tour on the Farm

On Saturdays through the Fall, we will be giving Trolley rides to our gourd fields.  Normally, we have a few that can be seen when visiting our store but this year most are behind the buildings.  This will give you a unique look of how we grow gourds and also you can ask lots of questions because your tour guide will be one of our very educated farmers.  This tour will begin at 11:00 am across the street from the retail store and will cost $5.00/pp, ages 3 and under will be free if held.  You can reserve your seat by clicking here.

Meadowbrooke Fall Village Walk in Class

On September 21st, we will be holding a walk-in workshop for our NEW Village.  You will have two great house sizes to choose from and 3 wonderful Fall Colors.  There will also be plenty of Fall Littles for you to assemble to occupy their warm home.  To complete your scene, there will be two colored fences along with lots of wood accessories.  Bring your friends and family for a day of memories and also to get a start on your own Meadowbrooke Village.  This is a walk-in class so no reservations are needed. Prices are will be $7-$8 for each Little, $20.00 - $25.00 for the Village houses and $5.00 for the fences.

Sunflower Festival

We end September with our second annual Sunflower Festival. During the Festival, you will have an abundance of Free sunflowers to pick, lots of Fall decorations that will be for sale, food trucks including Nomad Cuisine and Soul Burrito will be here serving up their delicious food and Hat Creek Winery will be back with Juniata Wines to buy and taste.  This is also the weekend of our Fall Oops Sale, the last one for the year.  We will also be holding a walk-in workshop of sunflower themed gourds for you to create. Down the street from the store is Warehime’s Pumpkin Patch that will have pumpkins, corn shocks and ornamental gourds for sale. Warehime’s are also excited to announce their new corn maze for you to wander though and try not to get lost.  For more details you can visit our website at https://mbgourds.com/event/sunflower-festival-and-fall-oops-sale-2019/.

As you can see, September is jammed full of fun activities for you to enjoy with friends and family.  We are excited for a new season and to see some old friends and meet some new ones.

Until next month,

Dori
