Farm Happenings

Sunflowers! Over the last few weeks, this is the topic I get asked about more than anything else. Are your sunflower fields blooming? The answer is not yet, we have planted about 50 acres of sunflowers over the last few weeks and the first fields should be in bloom around the second week of September. We always plant our sunflowers later so we have them for the fall. The next question, I get a lot of questions about is the Sunflower Festival and yes we are holding it the last weekend of September. We are still working out the final details but we know we will be having our oops sale, trolley rides around the farm, the pumpkin patch will be open and food trucks will be here. New this year, we are adding additional craft vendors and some specialty food vendors along with a band Saturday night. I will do a complete overview of everything in my September 1st blog but in the meantime, pencil us in for September 26-27!

We started classes this month and we have one more coming up on August 29th from 10:00am-Noon. On August 8th, we did the our first class since February and it went really well. We social distanced all the tables and set groups together. It was inside so we did require masks. On the 29th, you get the chance to make our new Little Penelope the pig along with a silo for her to hold all her corn in and a nice cozy barn. The cost is $40.00 for all three pieces and it is a great start to own village or to add on to your existing one. These crazy times have caused us to think outside the box and come up with some new and exciting things to do on our farm. Recently, we have partnered with Molly Pitcher Brewery in Carlisle along with Shaw Ranch Studio to start putting on Live on the Farm music events. The first one is tonight August 15th from 6pm-9pm and the next one is next Saturday, August 22nd from 6pm-9pm. Because we need to limit the amount of people at these events, you must reserve a space for your group. We still have a few spaces for tonight’s event. For more information on the bands and reserving space, please visit our website at https://mbgourds.com/farm-events/. What a great way to spend a Saturday evening ~ listening to good tunes, drinking Molly Pitcher Brewery ice cold beverages and visiting the food truck for some grub. Oh and did I mention you will be here to see the beautiful sunset as the sun goes down. Our store will also be staying open late these days so you can come in and see all the new and neat things we have gotten in for Fall.

Lastly, we want to thank everyone who came out to the Summer Celebration last month. This event surpassed our expectations. Everyone who attended was respectful of the new guidelines and regulations and caught on very fast to the new layout of how we had to run the oops sale. The evening ended with music by Midlife Crisis which was a ticketed event and that also went off without a hitch. We are so thankful for your continued support during this time.
