Crafter’s Corner and DIY Craft Days
Two of our most popular areas of our gift shop on the farm is the Crafter’s Corner and our Raw Gourd area. For those of you not familiar with these areas, they are a place where your creativity and a bunch of gourds meet.
The Crafter’s Corner is where you can buy bagged Gourd Kits for every season that provides everything you need to complete the project except paint and brushes since each person has a different vision of what their gourd will look like. The bagged kits also come with simple instructions that you can use to assemble your kit. We also have gourds lined up along the walls in three assorted sizes where you can customize your gourd selections to make your project uniquely yours. You can choose from multiple body designs, multiple head designs, bag up all the accessories that go with the kit and take them home to paint, assemble, and accessorize. As an added bonus, we also have a bunch of paints and dyes, brushes, and parts from top hats to gourd pipes to clay noses and buttons to pip berries and many of the parts we use on our own gourds. Many start with the bagged Gourd Kits to get their feet wet and then move on to the customizable kits along the wall once they feel a little more comfortable. The Raw Gourd area holds gourds of all different shapes and sizes. We have washed the outside of the gourd. There are some that we have cut into bowls, two different sizes of birdhouses and bird feeders. The options are endless in this area! This area is a favorite for those that have done the kits and now want to try their hand of crafting from the beginning. We also have customers who are already crafting gourds that find our gourds to work well with their creations.
This year we are trying something new on several Saturdays during the year. We are calling them DIY Craft Kit Days and the next two are going to be on February 14th and May 16th from 12:00pm-2:00pm. On these days, you can choose to buy a bagged Gourd Kit, a customizable Gourd Kit from the Crafter’s Corner or any gourds from the Raw Gourd area. You can also pick out any extra a la cart items from the Crafter’s Corner that may not be included in the kit. After paying for your project, you will make your way to our classroom where you will have lots of paints, brushes to complete your project. We will also have someone in the classroom to help answer any questions you may have as you craft.
