Raising Our Next Generation
My sister is a co-author of a book called “House of the Sun”. However….. while I love my sister that’s not a good enough reason to share anything with our customers. Rather this is a book on parenting and it is important to me for some very personal reasons that I’d like to share with you.
I’m a father of three grown children who I now have the great honor of working side by side with every day. I never even dared to dream this because I didn’t think it was possible. I thought farm life would be a good educational tool for my children to learn the basic skills of how to work hard and smart and then go out into the world and pursue their own dreams. Little did I know that they would come back home and choose to share their lives building something special with their old dad. It’s a dream come true.
The reason I feel so lucky and blessed is that I come from a family that shattered and scattered early. And I started out parenting at a young age. I didn’t really know what I was doing. I wasn’t a whole person because of all the scars I carried and the lack of a positive role modeling. I didn’t even know the full value of those precious babies we brought home. Fortunately I married a young lady who had her strengths where I had my weaknesses and vice versa. Together we made a lot of mistakes and got even more things right. From each of our three children we learned more about parenting and I think became more competent and confident. Wow, I had no idea how different each one of our children would be born. Each one so unique, they brought a whole series of lessons we needed to learn. The sad truth is that I learned how to parent from watching my children and listening to my wife sometimes.
You see, I know I was lucky. With the scars I carried and my immaturity when I started a family, things could have turned out much differently. When I first read this book I couldn’t help but think I found, by sheer trial and error, the very same things my sister discovered by observing a gifted teacher who had a great influence on her children and thousands of others. This teacher knew how to bring out the best in children and encouraged their uniqueness to bloom. Her methods and the book that arose from them shows a timeless way to raise and educate future generations so parents don’t have to rely on trial and error.
