Keeping your gourds safe
As time goes by there are questions we get at Meadowbrooke Gourds on a frequent basis. One of these questions is “How do I keep my gourd safe when I am ready to put it away for the season?” Here are a few tips for keeping your gourd in great shape year after year.
Each gourd we hand craft at Meadowbrooke Gourds gets special care throughout its making. The final step in our production area is called put away. This is where our gourds are carefully wrapped and placed into a box to be stored until it is shipped out. These gourds can sometimes stay boxed in our building for months before finding a new home. Knowing the special care we take in crafting each one of our gourds, we want to make sure that you will have that gourd for years to come so it can be passed down from generation to generation.
It is important to make sure that you wrap each one of your gourds in plain paper or bubble wrap when you are ready to put him or her away for the season. After wrapping the gourd you will want to make sure you place that gourd in a place that will not get wet. We recommend inside a box or plastic tote and always in a dry spot in your basement, attic or another area of your home.
So remember to always protect your gourds the best you can. We have already seen gourds we crafted 20 years ago come back to our farm for a visit with a customer. It would be great to see many more over the next 50 years, then beyond. If you have an old gourd of ours send a picture, or bring it in for us to see.
Below is our new Meadowbrooke Snowman hanging out in his shipping box. The plain paper we use can be seen behind him. Inside the paper are 10 more just like he only wrapped up to keep them safe.
